Because of my own history with education and the roles that teachers and professors have played in my life, I understand advocacy, activism and academic work as fundamentally intertwined. As a white disabled academic, I believe that I have a responsibility to both participate in disability activism and to be an accomplice to other communities whose histories and experiences of oppression are different from mine.I am intentional in integrating advocacy and activism into my everyday work, particularly around racial and disability justice in higher educational spaces.
I have served or participated in the following organizations as part of my work:
Vanderbilt University Chancellor's Diversity Council
University of Washington Best Buddies (Chapter advisor)
Showing up for Racial Justice (SURJ) Disability Caucus
Disability Studies in Education (DSE) Conference Planning Committee
